Players should register on BracketJD

To register:

  1. If you are from one of our partner schools, check with your coach for your registration access code than follow the directions below
  2. If you are not from one of our partner schools, submit your credit card payment via our PayPal link.  Once your payment is processed you will get an automated email with your registration access code.  
  3. Alternatively, you can mail a check payable to Chess for Success at 4207 SE Woodstock Blvd #271, Portland, Or  97206.  Please include a valid email address with payment, upon receipt of payment we will email the registration access code.

Once you have your access code:

  1. Visit BracketJD and sign up for your account if you don't already have one.  (An account is necessary because tournament pairings and results will be delivered electronically after each round)
  2. Log in to your Bracket JD account and search for "Chess for Success"
  3. Click on the Tournament you are registering for and enter your access code when prompted Click on "enter"
  4. On the menu side bar, click on "Register"
  5. Provide the required information including your access code
  6. You will get an automated email confirming your registration

The Girls Play Chess Tournament follows the same fundamental rules and structure as our other tournaments and is open to all female, female identifying, or non-binary players with no maximum from any particular school. The sections will depend upon the registrations. As with most Chess for Success tournaments, plan on arriving between 8:15 to 8:30 with the forfeit deadline being 8:45. You can anticipate being at the tournament until approximately 2 pm, as it comprises 5 rounds of play, followed by an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the event. 

The first 45 players to sign up and attend will also receive a copy of May the Best Player Win, a book about chess, girl power, and performance anxiety in sports by Kyla Zhao!

Chess for Success organizes tournaments across three categories: regional tournaments, state tournaments, and our informal "for fun" tournaments.
