Payment:  This tournament is free for students in our after school clubs, please check with your coach for the access code.  If your student is not in one of our clubs the registration fee is $25 and payment can be submitted here

Know before you go!

  1. Parking is limited.  The schools have two parking lots, once these are full off street parking is used and you may have to walk so come prepared!  There will be a limited number of handicap spaces which will require a handicap permit
  2. Elementary School Students will play at South Meadows; Middle School and High School students will play at Witch Hazel
  3. Food will be available at our snack table
  4. There will be five rounds of chess.  Games are limited to one hour and clocks are used after 40 minutes
  5. All chess rules apply including: Touch Move/Touch Take, En Passant, Castling, Pawn Promotion and Sufficient Material
  6. If students have questions or concerns while playing they should raise their hand to call over a judge
  7. There are three divisions:  Elementary (K-5)  Middle School (6-8) and High School (9-12). 
  8. Trophies are awarded to the top three finishers in each division (including ties)

Tournament Registration

Chess for Success organizes tournaments across three categories: regional tournaments, state tournaments, and our informal "for fun" tournaments.  To participate in tournaments you will need to create an account on TournamentJD An account is necessary because tournament pairings and results will be delivered electronically after each round

  1. If you are from one of our partner schools, check with your chess coach for your registration access code and follow the registration directions below
  2. If you are not from one of our partner schools and want access to all our tournaments as an affiliate submit your $500 payment via our paypal link.
  3. If you want to register individual students for one tournament use this paypal link for a $25 payment.
  4. You will get an automated email response with your registration access code.
  5. Alternatively, you can mail a check payable to Chess for Success at 4207 SE Woodstock Blvd #271, Portland, Or  97206.  Please include a valid email address with payment, upon receipt of payment we will email the registration access code.

Once you have your access code:

  1. Visit TournamentJD and sign up for your account if you don't already have one.  
  2. Log in to your TournamentJD account and under Find Tournament click chess.
  3. Click on the Tournament you want to register for (Use this link to find your region, using Search by Address)
  4. Click on "enter"
  5. On the Menu side bar, click on "Register"
  6. Provide the required information including your access code
  7. You will get a confirmation email from TournamentJD
  8. Students first and last names will be visible to all who register for the tournament, if you need an anonymous registration contact us.
